On many occasions I have revisited a blog to see if the author has replied to a long comment I left. A curiosness to read someone else's take on what I had to say. So, it is indeed surprising that I have not bothered to reply to my commenters. How rude of me! I apologize. It is as though a friend speaks and I ignore her. I enjoy reading your comments immensely. The connection I feel with many of you is eerie to say the least. Even though I have never seen you, we are kindred spirits on so many levels.
My friends run the gamut from the serious, calm ones to the boisterous loud ones. They come from different walks of life with varying interests. Being a typical gemini, I dabble in a little of this and a little of that. There are the artist friends, book club friends, spiritual friends, neighborhood friends, friends from my technology career days, friends from my stay in Hawaii, etc. Sometimes they meet, but often they stay in the separate areas of my life. I enjoy and appreciate all of them.
My blogging friends fall into different categories too - there are my Etsy friends, then those who write about interior decor and fashion, bloggers from India, Malaysia and Singapore, the ones that delve into the spiritual and philosophical, the poetry writers, photographers and travelling pals. The blogging world has exposed me to incredible talent and inspiration.
As for the blogging etiquette, now that is beyond me. Do I reply to a comment on my blog or do I visit your blog? What is the best way to acknowledge your presence? In trying to figure out the best solution, I have chosen the "no solution" way. Shame on me! Time for a change. If your comment is seeking a dialogue, I shall reply on my blog. And when time permits, I shall visit your blogs and leave you comments. How does that sound? My goal this year is to make the time to visit more blogs and leave comments. It is not about leaving a comment for comment's sake, but to make a connection and a friend (smile).
The florals are a fairly new series with me. Here is my acrylic painting entitled "Purple Passion".

I find blogs very interesting..like you, I keep an open mind to everything..amazing what you can learn. I just enjoy visiting and try to always be positive in my notes/my blog too..there is enough negative energy out in space and I don't want to add to it..Beautiful painting..very happy..
Love the painting! It would make a perfect ACEO too.
Rosebud, I know what you mean by the negative energy. I am careful about that too:) Sometimes when I am having a bad day, the temptation to blog about it is strong, but I rather write in my journal. Thank you for appreciating my painting:):)
Nice post, I struggle with how to reply to a comment also. I usually go to the commenter's blog and leave a reply. Love the painting.
I write my comments for you, knowing that most people are not going to take the time to read through the comments... and I usually don't come back. But I just realized that I can email bloggers, personally! Yet another option...
I agree and promise to me more attentive to my replies aswell.
I read all the comments on my blog, but I usually don't reply in the comment section. And, I usually don't expect another blogger to reply to the comments I leave on his/her blog. But, sometimes I do go back to see if they did comment in reply, especially if that blogger has a history of replying. Mostly, I just enjoy getting and giving encouraging comments.
Dogmaw and Sassyglass, thank you about my painting.
Storybeader, good point about e-mailing bloggers.
365 Letters, you are right about some bloggers having a history of replying. I find that I keep going back to check with those bloggers:)
So many categorys so little time :)
You returned a visit to my blog once and I definitely noticed it. When I see your posts in the Etsy thread, I always click on your because of that. So thanks!
If I comment something more than just "cool!" I'll click the box that says "email follow up comments to..." so if the blogger does respond to me, I'll see it. So I tend to respond to others on my own blog, rather than commenting on theirs.
I love the painting. I too wonder some of the same things you do. I am new to blogging and am enjoying reading so many interesting blogs.
I read all the comments on my blog but I don't always reply or expect one. I reply when something strikes my fancy as a dialogue. Otherwise, not. And I usually forget to go back to read replies to my comments on other blogs...although the other day I did somewhere and there was a really nice reply back!
Blogging, for me has been an unexpected way into community, too. Interesting world we live in now, huh?
Your comments about your friends are so nice :)
Hi! I, too, struggle with good blogging etiquette. I fear that if I commented on every comment, I'd be commenting and commenting and my family would starve due to no dinner being cooked!
Glad you wrote about this!
I really enjoyed reading your post. I can totally relate to you about comments by blog friends. It's so hard to acknowledge and show appreciation for each comment, it's rather impossible.
But we all appreciate you and feel it back! Love your work!
Hugs ~ Claudia
Kim, sometimes insomnia is a good thing - the only time I get to read blogs:)
Kellybot, I am glad you remembered me and come visit:0
Mel, I am pretty new to blogging too. In fact, July will be 1 year.
Sheryl, I am really enjoying the blogging community:)
Lynn, :)
Claudia, thank you and hugs back:)
Love, love, love the painting! Wow! I have the same issue about blogging. Every time I stop in to read someone's blog I feel the need to leave a comment of some kind so they know I was there. I look at how many people check in on my blog each day and how few in comparison leave a comment that it makes me think that maybe I could read a little more and comment a little less and it would still be okay.
I use to read a comment, run to their blog and thank them and leave a comment....not enough time for all of that.
Now I read my favorites, leave comments if I have time, leave comments on mine if need be and try to find time to read new blogs.
It's a lot of work this blogging world, but oh so much fun!
I really do not put any effort into worrying about responses either by me or to me. Why bother. We see what we say, and we see what everyone says...here is this virtual reality.
Even compliments can simple be absorbed, ingested and accepted with out a over stated "thank-you-note" reaction. A gift is something that we give with out expecting anything in return, right?
The making new friends aspect of blogging is really neat. It's not something I really expected when I started up mine, but I'm so glad for it.
Interesting thoughts on blogging "etiquette". I, too, SO appreciate comments but generally do not reply to them. My inkling on this has been that people may not wish to be "bothered" with the exchange. Perhaps I need to re-think this...
Hi Kala .. Vishu is my favourite too, though it was more fun as a child since the onus of taking care of the celebrations (read food)was not mine..still I love it and enjoy the togetherness these festivals bring.. Hope u have a great new year too !!
